Carnival!!!

It's Carnival weekend in the Maltese islands. Quite a big number of Maltese are spending this festive weekend on our sister island of Gozo. But those that have decided not to, were blessed with sunshine and good weather in Valletta and Floriana. I was lucky that I have attended the band parade in Valletta on Friday. It was a joy to watch and listen. The band even danced while playing the "Party RockAnthem" tune by LMFAO.
Today (Sunday) the festivities continued with the grand defile' around the Granaries in Floriana to the young and not so young's content.

The feast of St.Paul's shipwreck & local football

On the 10th of February we celebrate the landing of St. Paul on our island. For this year's feast, I was commissioned to shoot a concert by the "Paulus" orchestra at St.Paul's church in Rabat. It was quite an unusual event for me, being held in a church.
The feast came over a weekend, which also brings local football to the scene. Here are some pics of the two games which I shot today together with the concert.

Malta Eurovision Song 2012

'This is the Night' sung by Kurt Calleja will be representing Malta in this year's Eurovision Song Contest final that will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This was a wonderful night for Mr.Calleja and his band, and this event embraced an extraordinary day for me with regards to photography.

After taking some great football shots later on in the day, it was time for me to capture something different. I had been briefed that it was going to be difficult to capture the winner performing his/their song, and that maybe I would only be allowed to take shots from a far end or worse, take pictures of the winning singer at the press conference only. So I went at the event with two bodies and with two lenses of different focal length (70-200mm and a 24-105mm) as I didn't know what to expect.

All went well, and the organisers let us in before the winner was announced. Luckily enough, I made my way right infront of the stage as they were annoucing who won this year's contest and here are some shots that I would like to share with you.

A day when big goals were scored

On the day when Arsenal smashed 10-man Blackburn Rovers and produced a wonderful display of football to finish the game 7-1, our Maltese Premier league produced a couple of good goals as well.

At the National Stadium today we had not less than 10 goals scored. Valletta have beaten 10-man Marsaxlokk 5-2, while Floriana suffered their first defeat of the season by the hands of Mosta.

An interesting incident happened just before the Valletta game. When the electronic scoreboard was reset to display the second game in programme for the day, it yes showed the correct names of the two teams, but the team badges were of the previous teams. Ironically Valletta's badge showed that of their eternal rivals Floriana and both supporters weren't happy about it!
